For my second child I wanted a doula because I had a traumatic experience the first time. I'm so glad to have had Jes on my side as my doula for the birth! We got to know each other over a series of virtual meetings beforehand and when the delivery day arrived they came armed with multiple copies my birth plan for the rotating list of hospital staff, special tape since I have a sensitivity to certain adhesives, and a kind but firm advocacy approach. They helped enforce my boundaries with staff, like knocking before entering the room, so I could focus. After baby was born, Jes provided overnight care.
