A former techie from the healthcare and insurance industries, I found my calling as a Postpartum care provider when I witnessed the lack of postpartum support for moms after the birth of my son. I am a CAPPA trained postpartum doula, a mom and constant learner about various aspects of breastfeeding and newborn care. My mission is to help new moms and parents thrive by providing them tools and support to navigate parenthood.

Shilpa is an Ayurvedic full spectrum doula of bengali/south asian descent. She believes that the moment you become pregnant, you’re in a sacred, liminal space. Regardless of where that pregnancy may lead you, these transitions bring our shadows to the forefront. She welcomes this intensity and takes care to acknowledge, embrace, and nurture what might be under the hood, allowing it to surface and come to light — with curiosity, non-judgment, and trauma awareness, Shilpa always chooses to pay radical attention. She loves being in community with other birthworkers committed to transformative justice, collective liberation and decolonization of reproductive health practices. Having a relationship to land is an ongoing practice she is cultivating as she delves deeper into ancestral work.

I studied at DONA INTERNACIONAL AND DOULA CARIBE INTERNACIONAL becoming the first certified Doula in Colombia. I implemented the first Doulas Volunteer Program in a public hospital, being the first hospital to employ Doulas in my native Colombia. Now based in the Bay Area, I bring my skills as a Perinatal and Postnatal Educator along with her experience in more than 400 births, educating more than 500 couples, and conducting numerous courses for parenthood. I believe that families deserve to be informed, empowered to make birth decisions and that their voices need to be heard and respected. I work comfortably within the hospitals and medical staff, as well as alongside homebirth Midwives.

My journey started when I finished my studies in early childhood education in Brazil and worked with children of all ages including children with emotional and behavioral disorders. 3 years later, I moved to Santa Clara in California, where I had my own sunshine boy. It was when I immersed myself in the world of motherhood, a unique and wonderful felling but also very challenging experience, where I realized the importance of having a Doula to help, and support a mother and family in their pre-birth, delivery and also in the difficulties encountered in the postpartum that's how I decided to specialize in this beautiful profession that is to be a DOULA.

I'm a birth and infant care nerd. My practice includes birthwork as a full spectrum doula, infant feeding support, and education. I've incorporated time-honored practices with current evidence-based care. These are all go-to tools I share with clients I serve. It's important to me to to be able to share information on their rights with my birth clients, review how they might choose to assert their rights during pregnancy and labor, and include those choices in their plans. In the US, some communities —including Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities— have been excluded from receiving equitable care and comforts while pregnant, while giving birth, and in the weeks and months after delivery. In my services, I actively challenge structural biases and systems that perpetuate disparities. All new parents and infants deserve access to comforts, safety, survival, respectful support and care. I engage so everyone who wants a doula receives the best-suited support for their journey.

I grew up in Berkeley, California, and was raised by my lovely single mother, nanny, and grandparents. I always had a deep-rooted love for mamas and babies. As soon as I was old enough to provide childcare, I did, and still do, but now in the form of postpartum support. The summer before my junior year of college, I went through a traumatic hiking accident, which left me concussed and “out of commission” for some time. This experience opened doors of holistic healing for me that I have gladly stepped into and don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. Going through this, I discovered the power of herbalism, acupuncture, energy healing, and many more modalities! With the support of friends, family, healers, doctors and the newfound mindset that “my body has the wisdom to heal itself,” with intentional support, I did heal. I then returned to college to finish my degree in Anthropology, with emphases in Medical and Feminist Anthropology.

I first became a postpartum doula even before I had a baby of my own because I became so fascinated with birth and all that women are capable of, but I also saw a great need for more support for new moms. Now that I have a baby of my own, my eyes have been even more opened to all the support new moms need! I gave birth to my first child while living abroad in the Netherlands during the pandemic. No family could come visit me to help. However, thankfully in the Netherlands, a postpartum doula is provided through health insurance for 10 days after birth, 8 hours a day! She was my angel. I'm so excited to be able to pass on the care and knowledge I received from my postpartum doula to more new moms.

I am all about feeling prepared and feeling supported and heard. I mirror how I prepped for labor/childbirth and postpartum through my own personal experiences. I am also a mom of 2 sons and both with two very different experiences. I like to help my clients feel supported and cared for throughout their experience. I have assisted many women undergoing IVF treatments as well as many who have continued on becoming my birth clients and following them through pregnancy into parenthood with a smooth transition. I also offer child birth education courses which can be specifically tailored to each client. I do offer evidenced based information and believe in educating not only the birthing person but also their support person/persons in order to fully understand and know what to expect and how to further support throughout labor, delivery into postpartum.

Hello My name is Danielle I’m a Bay Area Native, I am a traveling doula that resides in Brooklyn, NY and Oakland, CA. I have been passionate about birth and supporting mothers for years. As soon as I heard the term and definition of what a “Doula” was, I knew this was supposed to be a part of my life’s journey. After doing extensive research on unnecessary interventions, c-section rates, and Black maternal deaths in the U.S., I began to see how needed Doula’s were in the birthing space. I decided to leave my career in sports to pursue my Divine calling as a Birthworker. I am here to help support and hold space for as many birthing people as I can in getting the birth experience THEY want. I am a professionally trained and certified Full Spectrum Doula. I am equipped to support and hold space with births, and postpartum care for the baby/birthing person. My goal is to leave you feeling empowered about your birth. To reclaim and own your body, your life, your experience. We are going to work together but I really want to have you know that the power that you're looking for and the information you are constantly searching for outside of yourself sometimes is already inside you, you know the answers and what feels aligned for you, your body and your baby.
