Pregnancy Osteopathic Care
It is common in pregnancy for old injuries or issues to reappear. There is also an array of complaints that may arise throughout pregnancy. Treatment throughout pregnancy is aimed at ensuring the body can continue to move, grow and adapt to the large demands that will be placed upon it. Treatment encourages a healthy and balanced body, minimizing the presentation of added and unnecessary discomfort as well as giving the perfect amount of space to position itself for delivery. During a treatment particular attention is paid to the pelvis, lower back and diaphragm — all areas put under great stress during pregnancy and required to function at their best during labor. Treatment will address other areas of complaint, always working with the whole organism to obtain optimal health, freedom of movement and ease of function.
Infant, Toddler & Older Children Osteopathic Care
Osteopathic care is a gentle way to support your child’s normal and healthy growth and development. Following birth, especially if there has been intervention or a long or very fast labor, it is not uncommon for babies to have tension held in their bodies that impacts nursing, digestion, range of motion in the neck, and symmetry in the head and face. Any disruption in this function can be related to the trauma and force their body has endured in birth. This force can create stress or strain on the infant and impact their function. Treatment is a gentle way to help support your little one's body to unwind and find balance in their new world, alleviate any tension remaining from birth or the days after birth, and promote optimal function. It is a good idea for any infant to have an osteopathic treatment and can be particularly helpful if birth has been stressful and/or if there are symptoms of digestive issues or feeding/latch issues arising in the early days. Parents can seek Osteopathic manual therapy for children of any age for a variety of complaints. Please see more information and common complaints here.
Postpartum Osteopathic Care
Postpartum Osteopathic care is crucial in supporting the healing of the new parent. There is so much growth and change in the mind, body and spirit during pregnancy and labor that is not always simple to recover from. Osteopathic manual therapy is a gentle yet powerful way to support the changes that need to take place following pregnancy and labor. I believe that receiving the right care postpartum is crucial to short- and long-term health and wellbeing. Treatment is focused on keeping balance in the system and ensuring that all areas affected and stressed by pregnancy, labor and postpartum movement and demands, are functioning optimally. The treatment is gentle, restful and involves work by the practitioner to support the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, changing position, and demands of the reproductive system and digestive system, as well as the structure of the pelvis, lower back, upper back and neck.
Kylie also offers workshops to help prepare for optimal postpartum healing. Please inquire directly with Kylie for more information or to schedule a one-on-one or group class.
